Each painting consists of two symbols, the symbol of the portrait and the symbol of being watched by the portrait. The latter appears only as a production, it is lacking of Signified, it is the undefined symbol. I tried to run this kind of model - the aimless creation of symbols which do not necessarily ‘ speaking’ or ‘meaning’, which do not necessarily produce a transition from image to meaning. I think this implies that the way the artists work ----- works are presented as nothing more than that, and there is no need to get caught up in the path of interpretation. The portrait gazes at it, suggesting a human way of seeing and understanding, but the point at which it differs is that the portrait symbol is sketched into a pattern of being understood as a portrait as obviously as possible, but the variation is so great that it seems to emphasise that the most important thing between people is the difference, and that there is no one symbol that can represent all identities.

In these works, symbols are not representing or naming, but as the creativity of the person who expresses them.
